Malacca Legend In Beijing

The question is ‘where does a Malaysian girl go for a good, hearty meal in Beijing?’.  Why, it's to Malacca Legend, of course!

Situated near the serene man-made Roma Lake, the Malaysian restaurant is fast gaining fame.  It attracts Malaysian food lovers and also growing in popularity amongst the locals. The restaurant is usually fully packed during the holidays and weekends.

One of my favorite dish in Malacca Legend is its ‘wet popiahs’. It is served separate and unwrapped, popiah skin and its condiments, so we can have the pleasure of wrapping it up ourselves. The other dish that is cooked well in this restaurant is the ‘nasi lemak’, which is accompanied by chicken or other curry of our choice. The restaurant serves all sorts of Malaysian dishes like chicken rice, char kuey teow, satay and chili crabs.

The head chef is a Malaysian called Joseph. I’m so often there that he knows my name!  It’s great that when I miss home food, the restaurant is only five minutes drive away.

My Fascination with Near Death Experience (NDE)

I’ve been watching many near-death experiences (NDE) posted on YouTube lately.  I’ve always been fascinated by the afterlife.

NDE refers to personal experiences associated to impending death. Most people who had gone through this described a detachment from the body and the presence of a tunnel of light. They would then ‘float’ up towards the intense light and are able to look at their bodies as they look down below.

They were engulfed by a sense of warmth and of ‘unconditional love’, peace and painlessness.  Some of them would then encounter a ‘man covered in light’ or ‘dressed in white’. Many noticed that this man has beautiful, streaming blue eyes, full of love and warmth.  Some of them would be reunited with deceased loved ones.

Some described their visit to a beautiful place full of vivid colors and streets of gold and some came back describing the most awful place of fire and torment.

Whatever it is, they came back changed.  Some atheists came back to seek Jesus and Christianity. Those who couldn’t put a name to this phenomenon should seek out Jesus and Christianity.

In the Bible, we are told that “God is light and there is no darkness in Him at all” 1 John 1:5, ”God is love” 1 John 4:8 and Isaiah 9:6 Jesus is the “Prince of Peace”.

I’m reminded of my own experience encountering The Lord. When I gave birth to my first child, I had to go for c-section because my cervix did not dilate properly in time for the birth. I was terribly afraid and I prayed that the Lord Jesus be with me. I went under using general anesthesia and when I woke up, I saw a man in white standing by the wall nearby. A feeling of love flooded my whole being and I cried uncontrollably. The doctor curiously asked whether I was in pain and I told her that I was not.   

I'm also reminded of my mother on her deathbed. She made a motion with her hand to an empty space on the opposite side of the bed “Lyn, who is this?” she asked me twice. I could not see anyone there and I told her so. She was a Christian and I’m full of peace with her passing.

I was recently told about another person I knew who was dying of cancer. A week before he died, he asked his wife ‘who is the dark man you’ve allowed into the house?” Later “why are there so many dark people in our house?” Although I’m not certain who they were, the existence of the spirit world cannot be denied.

One things is for sure though, God says..

Jeremiah 29:13

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

    

Of Pastors And Air Pollution In Beijing

If there’s one thing that a person living in Beijing consistently keeps track of even more than the stock market index, it would be the Beijing Air Pollution: Real time Air Quality Index (AQI).

The highest reading ever recorded in Beijing was 900, 100 being ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’. The reading of 400 is considered ‘hazardous’ and 500 used to be the maximum (yes, maximum) reading in accordance to the recently revised standards of the American Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Most of the international schools in Beijing have built indoor playgrounds for their kids. Terms like ‘indoor day’ or ‘pollution day’ are popular amongst the 6 and 7 year olds. “We didn’t go outside today because it’s pollution day”, my 7 year old would tell me every other day.

In the car driving to the city, we constantly have to rub our eyes because we couldn’t really make out whether there are problems with our vision or is the air really that dirty.

We have 8 units of IQ Airs in my home. Stepping into my house, I’m constantly hit with the feeling that I’ve has just stepped into the mountains or something like that. The filters are very expensive but at least it brought us some peace of mind over the state of our health.

The pastors at churches are constantly praying for the change of the status of the AQI. Many testimonies like “after Pastor so and so prayed over Beijing it rained for a whole week!” and “after Pastor this and that prayed, the AQI went down to 40 the next day! That pastor is a real prayer warrior”.

So, it’s fun in that way. In Beijing, us Christians are always waiting to see which pastor has the most powerful prayers.

Today, the reading is 30 and good. Wonder which pastor did it this time.. J

My Father In Heaven

It is such a privilege to know that we are children of The Most High God. God in Heaven is our Father!

Jesus went so far as to tell us in Matthew 23:9

'And do not call anyone on earth 'father', for you have one Father, and He is in heaven'.

I believe that in saying this, The Lord wants us to depend on Him solely and wholly. He is the one who gives us life.  God in heaven is the only one who deserves that title in our lives. He loves us unconditionally. He created us and knows us intimately.

He is also the one that provides the ONLY way for us to be reconciled to Himself. 

John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  

I Praise You, My Father.

What a revelation. Our Father is in heaven! The creator of the universe is the same one who provides for all our needs. He watches over us and protects us. He who sits on the throne in Heaven is He who decides the outcome of all our lives.

How blessed are we?
